RE: Dodge 3500 SRW 2WD Auto

i had a 2004 and now have a 2006. Yes, I believe the lift pump is in the tank...
Big difference between 04, 05 and 06 is subtle difference in behavior of the tranny..
04 has tow/haul mode, but would not go into OD in tow/haul
05 has tow/haul mode, but would go into OD in tow/haul
06 has a tow/haul mode and will go into OD in tow/haul, also has a separate OD off mode. This is also the first model year with support for an exhaust brake with the auto tranny..
My FIL has an 05 2WD dually 3500 and it has been a great truck...

RE: New Camcorder Should I SD or HD?

I know what you mean by lugging around, that is one thing I like about the Canon HF series is that they are a rather small form factor (of course not as small as the Flip). It's funny you bring this up as I am also thinking about getting a DSLR. I love my Canon G6 but I always had SLRs in the past and I miss ability to change lenses. Also the response speed when taking pictures is much faster than point and shoots. We do take a lot of photos.
I would like to have a DSLR with a good lens for those 5-8 school events during the year, where you want to get a picture of the kids on stage....

RE: XP BOOT DISC

this is a tool I use..
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
use a working machine to build a PE boot disk, then you can use it to start others...
For instance, friend of mine had a laptop that the boot sectors got corrupted on. Was able to boot with a PE disk, get the laptop on the network, via the built in ethernet jack (PE disk figured out the drivers), then copied all the data over to a file share on another PC...
Then I rebuilt the system...

RE: New Camcorder Should I SD or HD?

Probably not what you are looking for but here is my $.02...
We had a Sony camcorder in the early days... Even with the small 8mm form factor, it was something you had to lug around in a bag... Every time we wanted to use it the battery was dead etc... and in general we never used it..
I realize technology has come a long way in 12 years... Last couple of years I had been looking at the new models.. The hard drive based cameras had been catching my eye, but always came back to would I carry it with me...
I am the same with digital cameras, would love to have a digital SLR, but know I would not want to lug it around, so I don't buy one. I rely on the $100 kodak I can shove in my pocket..
With that said, here is my current video camera..
http://www.theflip.com/products.shtml
All I can say it is one of the coolest pieces of electronics I have owned... Runs forever on two AA batteries. Is simple and durable. Oh and cheap enough that if I break it while taking video sledding down a hill, no big deal...
SW that comes with it is slick and the video quality pretty darn good for the size and cost of the unit.

RE: High Curb - Low Trailer issues

Ditto use the skid wheels, that should solve your problem IMHO
be careful with the skid wheels. I did that on my previous TT. Caused a lot of flex in the frame where it wasn't intended. There is evidence of it all over the TT...
I dealt with this for a couple of years on the previous unit, then finally "flipped my axles" to raise the TT 5 inches...

RE: Strength of front jacks on Mobile Scout 34ft fifth

I have had all four tires off my TT several times. If I was going to pull all four at once, then yes I would do jack stands under the frame. But to replace the tires, just do one at a time with a jack under the axle, where it bolts to the spring...
This will be very close to the tire and at the same point where the load is carried normally..
I did swap out my TT axles a couple of years ago and dropped the four stabilizing jacks to hold it still, then did one axle at a time, while most of the load stayed on the other..
My $.02 worth,
Bryan
PS if you take it to a tire place, don't assume they know how to jack a trailer... I took mine to get new tires and caught them trying to jack an entire side by placing a jack under the triangular piece that joins the two springs together between the axles...

RE: puma 30qss

oh have I been down this road before...
I bought a TT roughly the same size. Advertised as a dry weight of 7400lbs. TV at the time had a 8600lb tow capacity (1/2 ton Yukon XL)...
Thought there was no way I had over 1200 lbs of stuff...
Turns out the dry weight advertised was not close to the delivered weight... Ready to roll ours weighs in ~9500lbs, about 150 shy of GVWR.....
You can see I no longer have the Yukon by my signature...
I would want to see it weighed as it sits on the lot... I only made it two tows with the previous TV, before I had to upgrade...
My $.02 worth,
Bryan
PS My vote is for buying a TT that have a GVWR less than the tow capacity of the TV...

RE: Help for a Concerned Newbie!

Bryan,
I just bought this over the winter so it was already winterized. I probably should've specified that each time I had water in front of the bunkhouse it was maybe only about 8-12 oz.
If this was an open drain like you suspect, would it be accessible from only the outside?
Thanks.
is the water inside the trailer our outside... on my old trailer, the low point drains looked like plastic compression fitting caps that screwed on the ends of little sections of pipe that stuck ou tthe bottom of the TT..
my current TT has a plastic tray cut into the floor under one of the vanities... in that tray there are two little valves that you open from the inside, but the water drains out little pipes that stick out the bottom of the TT...
you could have a low point that is leaking, or a joint that is leaking might have to follow the pipes and see where they go.

RE: Help for a Concerned Newbie!

you might have low point drains for the water system there that are open??
Do you do your own winterization/de-winterization or have someone else do it??
on one TT I had they looked like cap plugs screwed on the ends of two small pieces of pipe. On my current TT, they are two small valves you reach from the inside they have small metal rings on them and you pull them up to open, push them down to close...
my thought..

RE: Tell us your favorite BBQ grill for the RV

I use one of these over a wood fire primarily.
fire chief grill
built a box out of 1/2 plywood to keep it in, so don't really clean it up before putting it away, except for burning the stuff off. We have cooked chicken for 15+ people on it before.
Then I carry one of these as well. Cooks more like an over, but is great for roasting veggies, big pork chops etc...
Holland Companion Grill
takes a bit to learn how to cook on it, but works great once you get the hang of it.

RE: Issue with Barker 3500

i said in my reply that I had one freeze mechanically as the OP did. Would not work electrically or manually. Had to remove it at the CG and use my stabilizing jacks to hook up tot he TV...
The dealer replaced that one as it was the first trip after they installed it... Barker is great to work with directly too..

RE: leaky shower surround

OK, got a couple of PM's on this, so here is my story and pictures of my shower and how I finally fixed it...
First here is a picture of the shower, so you can compare and see if it matches yours... The red arrow points to the area between the cabinet and the shower , which is where I always saw the water. I could also see some seeping in underneath the pan if I removed the access cover, but it seemed to go there, not come from there.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0741.jpg height=422 width=317
This picture shows the detail between the cabinet and shower. the blue line is where I always saw the water and the red is where I suspected the leak was coming from...
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0740.jpg height=422 width=317
What myself and the RV dealer tried on 3-5 separate appempts to fix it from the outside.
orange lines indicate some of the various places we tried to caulk, both inside and out. Actually removed the side panel of the vanity to be able to get to it to caulk it.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0744.jpg height=317 width=422
I also tried drilling weep holes in the frame so the water coming in (in my mind through the panels or frame) would leak back into the shower pan. Didn't work and the next time the dealer took a stab at it, they caulked over them...
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0746.jpg height=317 width=422
I even moved the bracket where the shower wand was mounted... to try and keep water out of the bad corner..
from the right hand side as you looked in.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0742.jpg height=422 width=317
to the center, which helped some, depending upon who was showering, but also made the shower much nicer to use...
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0743.jpg height=422 width=317
None of this completely solved it, so I did what I felt needed to be done all along. Removed and reinstalled the glass surround. Always thought it had been installed improperly... What I found is that it was the white surround that was the root cause, not the glass surround...
In this photo you can see red lines. This is where I generously caulked behind the wall panel to seal where the wall panel overlapped with the floor pan..
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w292/troll3193/TT%20shower%20leak/HPIM0747.jpg height=422 width=317
The water was going into the crack between the two and up and over the corner... The wall piece was held in place by these plastic friction type rivets... I was able to gently pry the surround from the wall and seal behind it.. I then reinstalled the surround, caulking behind and under it.
Had to be careful removing the panels and the surround, but it can be done.
Has not leaked since.
Hope this helps.

RE: leaky shower surround

Do you have a corner shower unit with glass on three sides?? I think it's called neoangle... has the door on a 45degree angle??
If so PM me, I had this problem for a couple of years, finally fixed it. Had to basically remove and reinstall the shower door system.. .I always thought the leak was the door panels, but it was actually the white plastic surround...
If this is the type of shower you are talking about, pop me a note, I can tell you more of what I found and get you some photos..
